Manage DVB information

The Channel Management app enables you to create and manage channels in a way that ensures data consistency and synchronisation between OPF and SSP, and that the two systems are linked together in a standardised way.

This document will help you create or edit DVB information in a channel and understand the configuration options available.

Overview

Global DVB Info

You can set the global DVB info during the process of creating a new channel. See the Broadcast Information section on the Create a new channel page.

If no DVB information is added during channel creation, it can be added later or as part of a regionalised override.

Regionalised DVB info

Regionalised DVB info is used to create regional variants of a channel by providing regional source preference data in the channel metadata.
This enables client devices to use the correct broadcast source (DVB or OTT) for each channel, according to the configured preference for the region in which the device is located or in which the account is registered.

Add global DVB info to an existing channel

To add global DVB info to an existing channel:

In the Channel Management app, select the relevant channel item and then click on its Editorial Channel.
On the Metadata page, select the Broadcast tab to display the broadcast info for this channel (if any).
To add a new broadcast info item, click the Add Broadcast Information button.

When complete, click the Save button.

Edit global DVB info in an existing channel

To edit the global DVB info in an existing channel:

In the Channel Management app, select the relevant channel item and then click on its Editorial Channel.
On the Metadata page, select the Broadcast tab to display the broadcast info for this channel.
Click the Edit Broadcast Information button to make the required changes.
When complete, click the Save button.

Add regionalised DVB info to a channel

To add regionalised DVB info to a channel:

In the Channel Management app, select the relevant channel item and then click on its Editorial Channel.
On the Metadata page, select the Regional tab to display the list of regional info items for this channel (if any).
To add a new regional info item, click the Add Regional Information button. You can use the information in the table below to help you complete the fields.
To add additional regional variants, repeat this process.

Field	Definition	Info
Location	Region, for example Cardiff.
Location Type
Name	Channel name as displayed to the end user, for example BBC1 Wales.
Channel Number
Source Preference	Defines the intended way that the channel will be distributed to end users. The options are:
	OTT Streamed directly over the internet, bypassing traditional distribution methods such as cable or satellite TV.	OTT may be preferred for a variety of reasons, including higher quality.
	DVB Distributed to end users via methods such as cable or satellite TV.	DVB may be preferred where there are bandwidth constraints or a need to limit the amount of traffic in that region.

Edit regionalised DVB info in an existing channel

To edit the regionalised DVB info in an existing channel:

In the Channel Management app, select the relevant channel item and then click on its Editorial Channel.
On the Metadata page, select the Regional tab to display the list of regional DVB info items for this channel.
Select the required item and click the Edit Regional Information button to make the required changes.
When complete, click the Save button.
