Managing usage rules (live)
Overview
OpenTV VIdeo Platform, when used together with NAGRA's Security Service Platform (SSP), enables you to specify usage rules for live channels (including catch-up and NPVR recordings). This lets you do things like restrict output to digital only, enable/disable casting, specify protection/security levels, and so on.
SSP supports the definition of multiple usage rule profiles (for example, for SD, HD, and UHD).
OpenTV Video Platform enables you to:
- Enable/disable this functionality globally – see Usage Rule Profiles.
- Define a mapping between technical channel IDs and usage rule profiles in OpCon – see Usage Rule Profiles. These are automatically applied to technical channels at ingest.
- Define a default usage rule profile – see Usage Rule Profiles. At ingest, this is automatically applied to every technical channel that does not have an explicit mapping.
- Change/override the usage rule profile that was applied to a technical channel at ingest. See the Usage Rule field in Adding Technical channels (OpCon).
SSP includes a number of pre-defined usage rule profiles. When setting up the mapping between technical channels and usage rule profiles, you need to know the IDs of the usage rule profiles that you are using.
Note that although it is possible to customise these profiles and/or create new ones, this must be done in consultation with SSP. Please contact your NAGRA representative if you need to do this.
