Disney+ metadata (deep link) ingest

Overview

OpenTV Video Platform supports the ingestion of metadata directly from Disney+, which contains information that allows client applications to deep link to Disney+ content. Once content has been ingested into the platform, the end user can discover Disney+ content through search, recommendations, and RAILS along with the operator's own content.

The operator is responsible for managing the agreement with Disney+ to provide metadata, and for ensuring that their application adheres to the rules agreed by Disney+.

The ingestion of the Disney+ metadata is fully automated.

The following types of ingestion are supported:

  • Full – support for scheduled ingestion of complete metadata from Disney+ into OpenTV Video Platform

  • Incremental – support for scheduled ingestion of incremental/updated metadata from Disney+ into OpenTV Video Platform

  • On-demand – support for manual/on-demand ingestion of incremental/updated metadata  from Disney+ into OpenTV Video Platform

The schedule for the full and incremental ingests are configured at deployment time, with agreement between Disney+ and the operator. Occasionally, for newly-published high-value content with very short forthcoming availability windows, ingest may need to be triggered. An API is provided to manually trigger ingestion for this occasion.

Disney+ provides various metadata types, including movies, shorts (short-form), and episodes, along with any associated series and season information. OpenTV Platform can be configured to ingest all or only parts of the metadata feed. Additionally, Platform can be configured to only ingest content marked as Disney+ isOriginal.

To help monitor the ingest of Disney+ metadata external notifications (email) can be sent regarding the processing of the data. This may include:

  • Start of ingestion

  • End of ingestion (complete or error)

  • List of failed content with reason (e.g., missing metadata fields)
