Adding content to a rail

To add content to a rail:

  1. Select the template and then the layout containing the rail you want to add content to.

  2. In the rail you want to add content to, click edit.png Add Content.

  3. Select the type of content you want to add:

    • Catalogue:

      • Content – individual VOD contents

      • Groups – content groups

      • Nodes – content grouped by node

      • Live events – individual live events

      • Channels – broadcast channels

    • Personalised:

      • User Specific – allows you to construct a rail containing one or more of the following:

        • Continue Watching – content that the user has started watching but not finished

        • My List – VOD content or channels that the user has favourited

        • Network Recordings – content that the user has recorded

        • Recently Watched – content that the user has recently finished watching

        • User Purchased TVOD – transactional VOD (TVOD) items that the user has recently purchased

        • User Purchased PPV – pay-per-view events that the user has recently purchased

        • User Subscribed Channels – broadcast channels that the user is subscribed to

      • Recommendations – the rails section that you add will be populated with content from the configured recommendations engine, based on your selections:

        • Recommendation Context – select the recommendations context that will determine the type of content that the rail section will be populated with.
In addition to the default contexts provided by NAGRAVISION, you can create your own contexts to meet your own requirements. For example, you could set up contexts for:

          • Content from a particular provider (e.g., Amazon Prime)

          • Content in a specified price range (e.g., content that is less than €5)

          • Content that is free with ads

        • Number of items – the number of items that this rail or rails section should contain

        • Optionally, you can specify:

          • Content Seed – a specific content item that the recommendations will be based on. This can be an editorial (editorial content), a live event, a series, a season, or a deep link.
Select a type, then click Add Content and select an item from the list.

          • Filters – specify one or more filters to constrain the recommendations that are returned. For example, you can limit recommendations to:

            • Content of a specific genre

            • Content featuring a specific actor

        • Channel Image Type – for channel recommendations, choose whether the image that is displayed is the channel logo or the image for the currently-playing event.

      • Search – the rail or rail section will be populated with search results when the client application requests this template with a search query. See Creating a search template.

      • Custom:

        • Key Value Pair Section – lets you add a rail or rail section that uses a blueprint to determine the content. For example, the PromotionalBanner blueprint allows you to add a promotional banner rail/section (see Adding a promotional banner rail to a layout).

        • Pre-Curated Section – lets you define a rail or rails section that is populated with content from an external source. Here, select:

          • External Providers – select the external provider. See External providers.

          • Content List – select the content list that determined the content that will populate the rail/section. See External providers.

          • Number of items – the number of items that the rail/section should contain

          • Select an Action Type – select whether to play the content or go to the media card for the content if the user taps on the item.

          • Image Type – select the image type for the items in the rail.

  4. Click add_blue_uic.png to add the content to the rail.

  5. Repeat step 3 to add additional rails sections to the rail.

  6. Click Save Unsaved Changes >.

  7. In the confirmation dialog that is displayed, click Continue to save the rail.

A rail can contain just one type of content or multiple types of content (rails sections).

Each time you click add_blue_uic.png, you are adding a new rails section to the current rail.
