Release notes for OpenTV Platform

Release summary

This release includes a number of new features, including Google Ad Manager integration for client-side ad insertion, backend search history, and a number of OpCon enhancements – a new screen for messaging, node enhancements, additional A/B testing functionality, and generation of multiple rails based on genre or channel, and others.

Guest entitlements – DWH notifications

The purpose of this feature is to reformat the RMQ messages raised from the GES module (for guest entitlements) such that they are processed by DWH without any impact to DWH message queue handlers.

Google Ad Manager Integration

OpenTV Platform now supports client-side ad insertion (CSAI) using Google Ad Manager. This includes:

  • The ability to ingest time offsets and durations and enable/disable ads (via XML or API).

  • The ability to enable/disable ads and set time offsets and durations in OpCon.

  • Propagation of ad metadata to generated content (catch-up and recordings).

See Enabling ads using Google Ad Manager.

OpCon push messaging UI

A new section in OpCon allows operators to control the building and distribution of messages to subscriber devices.

This offers an operator the following capabilities:

  1. A dedicated section in OpCon providing a publication centre for general messaging

  2. This new centre references DMM to discover and target messages on-demand towards:

     a. Current topics defined in the deployment

     b. Current individual devices registered for messaging in the deployment

     c. All current devices registered to a particular account

     d. New topics defined by the operator

  1. Messages sent are traceable via DWH reporting / analytics.

  2. Messages sent can be of a number of forms, including: plain text, HTML with images, and HTML with deeplinks to application content.

User device management

This feature allows end users to rename and delete devices from their accounts (in addition to the existing ability to add new devices).

View products from node

This feature adds the ability to view products from the node screen in OpCon.

View node info

This feature provides the ability to view node information in OpCon without having to explicitly click View Node.

Support for ad insertion profiles

This feature enables CMS4/ML to provide the ability to add advertising metadata to content by associating the content with an ad insertion profile.

Making an A/B test result permanent

This feature allows the operator to decide to make either the A or B test version the permanent template for all users, or all users within the specified segment(s) when the test ends or when a user reviews the results.

Genre/channel based seeded rail

This feature supports the automatic generation of rails based on genre or channel.

See Add multiple rails based on genre and Add multiple rails based on channels.

Backend search history

This feature enables OpenTV Platform to record the user's search history. That is:

  • Record the user's search terms/history.

  • Enable a client application to retrieve the user's search history via an API call.

See Getting the search history and Deleting a search history entry.
